Tra Città metropolitana e City Region. Adeguatezza istituzionale come vantaggio competitivo per lo sviluppo regionale in quattro regioni europee e il caso del Veneto

Abstract

The essay focuses the attention on the metamorphoses that are affecting the forms of political regulation and government of the territory in the context of globalization, which follow the processes of metropolisation of the new functional urban areas - or city regions. On the one hand, the analysis of four study cases in Northern Europe, that the data of the Regional Competitiveness Index (Rci) show to be among the most competitive European regions has been carried out. On the other hand, considering the Mediterranean countries characterized by greater and different criticalities, the case of the Italian Northeast Region and in particular of Veneto Region has been taken into consideration. The analysis makes it possible to highlight different functional forms of governance for large areas, putting into evidence the weight of the institutional fit for the governance of the new city regions as a regional competitive advantage in the context of the global economy.
