Rigenerazione urbana nelle città universitarie tra Student e Social Housing. Il caso dell’Ex Ospedale Sanatoriale “A. Galateo” a Lecce

Abstract

The contribution reflects on the relationship between the university and the city, especially on the reuse of disused buildings in Student and Social Housing as an opportunity for urban regeneration and architectural reuse in university cities, strengthening the link between knowledge spaces and urban spaces. The selected case study concerns the reuse of the ex-sanatorium hospital “A. Galateo” in Lecce, a medium-sized town in the South of Italy, where there is a polycentric university in a historical and consolidated urban body of great value. The adoption of collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multilevel approaches, the mix of users and functions, the attention to and from the city, and the adoption of flexibility requirements are some of the principles deduced from the analysis. The latter represents the strategies necessary to implement Urban Regeneration processes able to adapt to the continuous changes and new needs of a complex urban system.
